What is Manifestation?

Manifestation is the practice of turning your ideas into reality.

Some people might question the difference between that and goal setting, but there is a substancial difference.

Mainly because manifestation happens whether you’re practicing it or not. When most people talk about manifesting, they mean consciously manifesting.

These people have realised that fulfilling their dreams is about impressing the subconscious mind until what they desire is reflected back to them in physical reality.

How Manifestation Works

To understand how manifestation works, we need to think about imagination differently.

The great self-help author, Neville Goddard believed that imagination creates reality.

To even start to comprehend this, we can look at Hermetic philosophy that states, “All is Mind, the Universe is Mental.”

If we start with this assumption, that the only thing that truly exists is one mind, then it’s easier to work up from there.

We can then say that physical reality and imagined reality are connected as one.

As human beings put more attention on what can be experienced with the five senses, we discount what can be imagined by the mind.

Manifestation works by having faith in our imagination, letting go of fear or resistance (also known as manifestation blocks), and developing new assumptions about what is possible for ourselves.

Manifestation is essential if you want to create something new for yourself.

Is it possible to change your life without discovering manifestation?

Maybe. But for people who have experienced a lot of adversity in life or struggled for years to achieve the results they want, knowing how to manifest will be of great importance.

The truth is: Our negative past experiences can have an ennormous impact on the way we behave in the present moment.

And how we behave in the now has a direct effect on our future. To create a future that looks vastly different to our past, we must think, feel, and behave differently today.

We have to make conscious decisions in the present moment instead of allowing our unconscious impulses to direct our lives.

One of the most common ways manifestation presents itself to us is through a simple experiment.

You might have already experienced something like this before.

The car you own has seen better days and it’s time to upgrade to something better. You start looking at new cars and you see something you like.

You go to a few car dealers in your area and maybe even find private sellers selling this car within your budget.

Knowing that this is the car you want to buy, you start imagining yourself as owning this car and feel excited about the day you’ll be able to drive home in it.

Now you will start miraculously seeing this car everywhere you go. It’s as if the universe is trying to tell you something, that your dream car is being presented to you.

How and why is this happening?

To answer that, we need to look at the science and psychology behind manifestation.

Science and Psychology Behind Manifestation

Phychology tells us that our core beliefs are formed before the age of seven, from our primary caregivers, teachers, friends, and siblings.

The purpose of our beliefs are to inform us how to operate in the world so that we can survive and thrive as we get older.

Problems occur when the people we learn from hold limiting beliefs and pass them onto us in childhood.

Because children are unable to discern what is true and untrue, they take on the dominant beliefs of those around them, believing them to be true, even if they’re not.

Once these beliefs take shape in a childs mind, they will unconscious confirm them to be true by finding evidence throughout life.

This is thanks to a fuction of the brain known as the Reticular Activating System.

The Reticular Activating System filters out information it deems unnecessary as a means to conserve energy, and seeks out information to confirm what it already believes.

For example: You want to start an online business and achieve financial freedom, but something is stopping you.

Every time you think of ideas, you get into analysis paralysis and worry that it won’t work.

You keep finding evidence that it’ll be hard to succeed and that no one will buy anything you have to sell.

This is because there is a belief that you must get everything perfect and if you don’t, the business will fail.

You might have failed at other things in the past and now the RAS is looking out for any signs why you might fail again, which keeps you in a loop of self-doubt and procrastination.

Research done in the field of mindset and neuroplasticity proves that we can rewire the way our brain works.

That means you can be born poor and grow up uneducated, yet still develop the talent and skills necessary to become a worldclass athlete or musician.

Self-fulfilling prophecies

What you assume to be true or expect to happen has more chance in happening.

And it works both ways.

When our thoughts make us believe we will never be happy, our brain will only look our for the things that confirm our unhappiness.

But if we expect to feel better everyday and not allow negative circumstances to sway our positive assumptions, we will always find a way to succeed.

Rhonda Byrne is the author of the book “The Secret” and popular documentary of the same title.

Both explore the law of attraction and that what we predominantly focus on with our thoughts will be manifested in our physical reality.

Regardless of it’s success, it received much criticism in it’s claims that we attrack events into our lives simply by thinking about them.
